Kenya’s growing interest in plant-based foods and sustainable nutrition is opening new opportunities for food innovators to rethink how local ingredients can be transformed into healthier and environmentally responsible products. Through its Future Foods initiative, Quality Life Without Borders continues to support emerging innovators while strengthening Kenya’s alternative protein and plant-based innovation ecosystem by connecting entrepreneurs with culinary experts, nutrition specialists, and food industry mentors.
During the 100% Plant-Based Foods Kenyan Women Innovators Pitch Series – Episode 4, innovators Jedida, Charity, and Vivian introduced a creative beverage concept: Avocado-Seed Tea. Made by carefully roasting and brewing seeds from locally sourced avocados, the tea transforms what is typically discarded into a valuable, nutrient-rich wellness beverage.
The resulting infusion offers a deep, earthy flavor with a subtle natural bitterness, creating a distinctive alternative to traditional herbal teas. Rich in antioxidants and plant compounds, avocado-seed tea presents a wellness-oriented drink that can be enjoyed hot or cold and enhanced with natural sweeteners or spices. Its versatility makes it suitable for both everyday consumption and premium wellness beverage offerings.
From an evaluator and investor perspective, the pitch demonstrated several promising signals:
Judges praised the innovators for presenting a creative and sustainability-driven concept that addresses both nutrition and environmental responsibility. The pitch highlighted how simple, locally rooted ideas can unlock new opportunities within Kenya’s growing plant-based food and beverage sector.
The Avocado-Seed Tea concept reflects the broader mission of Quality Life Without Borders—to empower innovators and accelerate solutions that advance sustainable nutrition, circular food systems, and the future foods ecosystem in Kenya.
